Fundy Geological Museum
There are few places better to explore the world of dinosaurs and gemstones than at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro.
It’s here that you’ll find some of North America’s oldest dinosaur bones on display and learn how Nova Scotia was once connected to Africa and Europe.
You’ll also discover how the tides that roll in and out of the Bay of Fundy are continually overturning new fossils and gemstones. The purple amethyst is perhaps the most commonly found gem but there are also all kinds of other agates and plant and animal fossils.
Try to call the museum before you visit to see if you can arrange a walking tour of the local beach (this will have to be co-ordinated with tide times) with a local expert. It’s highly recommended.
In the same area, don’t forget to visit the Rock & Mineral Shop & Museum, run by Eldon George – the man who found the world’s smallest dinosaur footprints. You can see them on display in his private museum, along with a stunning collection of gemstones, seashells and minerals.

Admission fees: Adults $6.25, Kids 6-17 $3.50, Family $9 for 1 adult plus kids or $15 for 2 adults plus kids
